When patients meet me for the first time, they are surprised. Why? They are really surprised that they get to ask as many questions as they want. There is no limit. Really. I find when patients have their questions answered, they appear more relaxed, lower pulse, lower blood pressure and less wrinkles. Ha!
One method for reducing anxiety in the dental office is laughter. When a patient laughs, the body secretes chemicals that make them feel better and heal faster. Those with a positive outlook have higher success rates that those with a negative outlook.
Laughter encourages a positive outlook.
For example, I might use this fish series segment from my upcoming book, Laughter is the Best Medicine:
We just got new fish for the fish tank in our dental office. Some of my patients related that those fish are very smart. Do you know why?
They always stay in school.
Some of my other patients disagreed that the fish are not very smart. Do you know why?
Their grades are always under sea.
Some of those fish with their grades under sea have two knees. Do you know what they are called?
Two – knee fish.
What do you call a two-knee fish with one eye?
I know, that’s fishy!!!
…to reduce anxiety, promote healing and encourage someone to feel improved…be kind, laugh and heal!
